National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. This year, on May 9thand 10th, Thorne Crest Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) delivered gift bags to the homes of the nursing staff to show their appreciation for the hard work they do.

The nursing staff was taken by surprised as they opened their doors to find gift bags full of their favorite treats. Linette Kleinschrodt, a Throne Crest RN said, “What a sweet thing for them to do. It made my weekend!” RN Jennifer Boots commented, “I was absolutely stunned.  It brought a tear to my eye!”

Thorne Crest CNA Kayla Lee stated, “the nurses deserve to be recognized for all of the hard work they do for everyone at Thorne Crest especially during these hard times.  So we wanted to make sure that they felt appreciated individually during the week that is dedicated to them.” CNA Lilia Almazan, expressed similar sentiments, “sometimes during a stressful time with so much going on, having to pick up extra shifts and extra work, it’s nice to feel appreciated.  It makes my heart so happy to make someone else’s day by doing a kind gesture.  It made me so happy that they all loved it!”

Thanks again to all the nurses for everything you do!

Thorne Crest Senior Living Community in Albert Lea, MN is honored to receive the bronze award in McKnight’s 2019 Excellence in Technology Awards.  Thorne Crest was selected over other senior living communities across the nation for their innovative practices in harnessing technology to improve the lives of senior residents through activities and interaction.

Utilization of the following technological programs have led to Thorne Crests success when engaging residents:

Eversound Wireless Headphone System has helped to mitigate the effects of hearing loss and end social isolation with residents experiencing hearing impairments.  The headphones can be connected to any audio source, including A/V systems, television and music player devises.

It’s Never Too Late (IN2L) is a portable computer experience that can launch hundreds of applications for recreation, social connection, memory care engagement and therapy purposes.  Activities can be adapted to each resident’s unique abilities and interests.  There are thousands of choices for both group and one-on-one activities.

Rendever Virtual Reality Platform helps to overcome social isolation through the power of shared experiences. Residents can travel to all corners of the world and explore a variety of content.  The experience is very powerful, particularly among seniors experiencing cognitive decline, impaired vision or mobility restrictions.  When the virtual reality experience is utilized in a group setting residents share stories and deepen their connections with one another and with staff.

Thorne Crest continues to seek out innovative ways to use technology to further enhance the lives of their residents.
